To build a webpage at geocities all you need is a Yahoo! user ID. Once you have a user ID, you can custom build your custom webpage. Below are basic steps you will need to take in order to produce a website through Geocities.
1. Click the "Sign up for a Free Website" link and complete the sign-up process
2. Once you complete the sign-up process, you will be asked to select a topic for your webpage. A page should come up that looks like this:

Choose a topic to determine the type
of ads that will appear on your site. (Can be changed later.)

4. Select a topic and click Continue to start building your website.
5. The following screen will come up:

6. For your first web site, you might consider using the Yahoo! Page Wizard. The Page Wizard allows you to select a format/theme for your web site. All you need to do is input the information you want in your webpage. If you have a web page design program, you can upload your file to Yahoo! Geocities through the "File manager" or "easy upload" option. Below, I have outlined the basic steps in utilizing the Page Wizard. This site has a lot of options when building a website. Feel free to try different things out.

7. When you select a theme or page design that you like, a window will pop up.
8. Click Begin and select a look for your webpage
9. Then, input information about you, or the purpose for your webpage.
10. Your next step is to upload a photograph or picture. If you have a picture file on your computer that you wish to use, you can upload it here. If not, you can use the default image offered by Yahoo!
11. Next is the inputting of your favorite links. This is completely optional, but if you have some favorites include them here.
12. Then enter your information (if you want)
