Getting Started
To begin, please select from one of the lessons below. The lessons are in order from easiest to most difficult. Feel free to look through each lesson, its objectives, and decide which lesson will best serve your educational purposes. Each lesson is designed to be an independent learning venture; however, learning from peers and other professionals is always beneficial. If at any time you have questions about any of the lessons or just want to ask other professional's opinions and thoughts, please feel free to utilize the General Discussion Board. As always, if you need assistance, please email me and I will assist you.
Lesson #1 -- Technology Integration Research
Here you will read a literature review that discusses several aspects of current technology integration research. There is also a bibliography that lists several articles and research papers that participants might find interesting. The lessons of educatingteachers.com have been built around many of the methodologies discussed here. This lesson's lecture provides a good foundation to the basics and theories revolving around technology integration.
Lesson #2 -- Internet Usage Guidelines
GUSD has an acceptable usage policy (AUP) that is outlined in the Districts' technology plan. Most school districts have an acceptable usage policy and technology plan in place. In this lesson, participants will be taken through the AUP, it's relevancy, as well as integral aspects of Technology Plans, as seen in the GUSD version. There are also other AUPs to analyze as well as other school district's technology plans. This lesson is a "must" before you implement online technology into your classroom. There are several standards and protocols that you should be made aware of that revolve around your responsibility as well as student conduct.
Lesson #3 -- How to complete a search on the
Internet
The skill of searching the Internet is mandatory for properly integrating Internet resources into your language arts curriculum. Once you master this skill, you can take your knowledge and share it with students.
Lesson #4 -- WebQuests and WebHunts
WebQuests and WebHunts are wonderful structured inquiry based searches for your students to participate in. There are several WebQuests that have already been created and are ready to use. If you are interested in using this technology in your language arts classroom (as well as other content areas) this is the lesson for you.
Lesson #5 -- Advanced Applications
Advanced applications will provide you with higher level technology rich activities to complete with your students such as website publishing, email usage, video conferencing, and more. Once you master basic Internet skills, advanced applications are not as "advanced" as you might think. There are several easy to use applications that you can challenge yourself with.
